Human powered consumption

The PVC Pipe Structure appears unassuming in the daylight. The pipes are industrial in their continuous form and the history as a purely utilitarian material used for transporting valuable resources such as drinking water. But as the viewer explores the sculpture, different areas are lit to reveal the inner structure and the flow of the sculpture’s construction. This discovery tests human capacity for restraint: as the sculpture will stay lit as long as people continue to interact with it, but that interaction also drains the batteries that power the sculpture. Overtime, human desire to activate the different sensors will overuse the sustainable capacity of the batteries, depleting that resource base, and causing the pipes and the sculpture to lose their purpose.
