Tipping Fee

As a commentary on American capitalism and materialistic culture, this pile of collected furniture has been salvaged from the side of the road, accumulated from Facebook Marketplace as free items, and given by myself and those closest to me. This exhibition provides an overwhelming feeling of a mass that has been collected over just the span of one month (August through September). Once the exhibition is finished, all of the furniture will be donated to local second hand shops or repurposed into the second form of the project. This way, the furniture will be given a second life to be used by another person, rather than ending up as ‘trash’ and contributing to the negative effects of landfills and overconsumption on the environment. Anything that cannot be donated will be broken down and used by myself as the materials for a future iteration of this  installation.

The blue journal includes documentation of the dates, descriptions, and whereabouts of all of the acquired furniture. This journal will continue to record the lifespan of each piece of furniture: whether it be donated or repurposed into something new.

This installation was a community based project that would not have been possible without the help of: Gracie Baer, Jules Bunch, Stevie Delgado, David Hurlin, Jordan Ismaiel, Ryan Noble, and Kara Stallings. I am forever grateful. Thank you so very much.
