handmade legacy

Quilts act as historical and cultural records that are traditionally passed down amongst matriarchal lines within families. Quilting and other forms of stitching have been engendered in Western society as “Women’s Work”: a derogatory term for female engendered objects, themes, and roles. My own quilt becomes a visual history of my life experiences growing up in rural Wisconsin shown through the patches in the quilt. To celebrate the history of quilters and the art of stitching, the craft based technique of quilting is combined with traditional forms of fine art through learned skills and techniques that shaped myself as a 3D artist.
